With the ides of October upon us, cattle ranchers and farmers are looking towards the skies hoping for an early and wet winter. At least the ones here in Yolo County anyway. We have had two dry winters in a row and a third would be disastrous to those who rely on ponds for livestock water and lakes and reservoirs to irrigate their crops.
With the early rains the past two weeks, there is a green haze on the hills and along side the roads. The welcoming sign of grass breaking through the ground to start its growing cycle.
I hope it continues.
